A Open Letter concerning TheMasque

As some of you may have noticed (though I doubt that it was many of you) The Masque’s chat, The Ballroom came down for 48 hours this week. This letter is an open one to those that likely didn’t notice that I took chat down or didn’t realize why.

It is back for one reason – because the people that go there on a regular basis and consider it home, love it and asked me to bring it back. I will not take the chat down again.

You are welcome to join us once again for our topic chats and our games. We will be increasing the hours that the room is covered and adding to our activities and our team. As always, if you find that there is no one in the room, stay. I see the traffic logs. I SEE that people usually show up within minutes of someone leaving. Instead of poking in and leaving right away, stay. Others will join you. If you want activities at different hours, host them. If you want topic chats in UK evenings, Finland mornings or Australia noontimes, host them. Put something together. Be the host. We’ll do everything we can to help. We want to help, we want TheMasque to succeed and we want you to have fun.

If you are having problems getting into the new room, there are directions on how to clear your caches on the chat page, at the very bottom of the chatroom rules. If you are still having problems, contact me personally and I will contact the company to see if there is an alternative that will allow you to join us. If you are trying to join us from AOL, use your off-AOL IE browser. If you're still having problems, please leave me a message here with your yahoo IM and I will contact you to walk you through the different steps we can take to get you in. You won't be the first to contact me and you won't be the last. I certainly do not mind at all; I'm happy to help.

That all being said, I will give you all two caveats to my welcome:

First, I changed the chat format. I did that for the sake of the regular chatters. I do not feel that they should have to put up with lags and boots. Digichat is an unstable format and I refuse to tolerate it, especially for the amount of money that it costs me. The only reason that I would even think of using it now is as a backup – and then only if I cannot get a refund for my advanced payment. The new format is far more stable. It does not lag. It does not boot. It has several features that digichat does not. The only two things that it does not have are in-chat profiles and more than 25 icons. I will not apologize for either. Profiles are available on the website. Feel free to fill one out. You can include photos of yourself as well on the website profile. If you need help, ask. As for the icons, I moved over the most popular ones from our Digichat site. I did not move over personal icons and I did not move over all of the icons. Please be happy that you have icons. Digichat and this format are the only chats that I have seen with icons at all. If you would like to see more of the new chatroom, feel free to visit any time, however, please do not come in to my home and announce to the room that the chat format “is weird” or that you “hate it”. If you dislike it, do not come. I do not walk into your house and inform you that your furniture is ugly. Do not walk into mine and do the same.

Second, if you are thinking of coming to The Masque for the single, sole reason that Literotica’s chat is for any reason non-functioning or not functioning up to par, please think again. I am now very tired and very frustrated at the complete and utter rudeness of those that join us and then flee in a matter of minutes with Lit is fine again. The Masque is NOT the place to go when your drug is unavailable to feed your addiction. No other chat, be it mine or someone else’s should have to tolerate that kind of rudeness.

Yes, I always know when Lit is down. Within minutes, I know because those of you that normally do not join us, come in droves, in minutes. I also know when Lit is back up for the same reason. Within the span of ten minutes, a room that had 25 people in it, has three. Is that something that you would do in someone’s house? Please don’t do it in my home.

Again, you are welcome to join us, but please do it respectfully and joyously.

Sorry to hear about the drama. That is never fun. What chat client did you end up going with?

I went with Addon. I really love it. It is really stable, though I've had to walk a few people through clearing caches and pulling a new Java, etc. I sure hope those are the only problems! I was having a lot of rudeness with people forgetting tat chats are something that is actually paid for by a person, rather than by some corporate entity and their behavior not even clicking with them as beign inappropriate. It took this kind of kick in the pants for people to understand what's going on. I trust that it'll never happen again, though! I think I got it looking pretty good, you're welcome to take a look.

That's great, I am glad it is working for you. Someone (either them or the folks at Java) finally fixed the bug that didn't let you see colors in chat (colored text - it uses BBCode) with newer versions of Java. Now it all works just fine. But yes, you do need to get people on board with the latest Java and clearing out of caches. I think that solves 99.9% of the problems right there.

The whole mentality of "you owe me" "me me me" in running an online community just blows me away. That and the assumption that you are running a democracy. LMAO. (unless of course, you really are running one. do they exist?)

God, getting people to clear three sets is such a pain. I have it written out, plus instructions to get the latest java and it's jut not clicking with some of these folks. Also, now, I have one woman who is crashing her computer on the newest java. I'm very confused.

I am SO tired of the "you owe me" thing. Good Lod. What the hell do *I need to come up with ways to entertain people? They want entertainment, make it! I've pretty well let people know that I'm going to be pretty cool with just about anything but I am the bottom line every time. There's no democracy in my house, there are just level of adminstration which is how I pretty well like it. As things go more smoothly, I'm trying to back away from it so it's less "me" more "them".
