Dragon Wytch semi-review

As you know, I'm not one for book reviews, but I think I might start. I read rather vociferously and will henceforth keep you semi-apprised of what's happening in the book and fic front. My newest read is Dragon Wytch by Yasmine Galenorn. If you don't want the gory details, just know this - this book sucks.

The D’Artigo sisters are half-human, half-Fae operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. Camille is doing her best to juggle magic, men, and the demonic war into which they’ve been thrust—until she discovers a secret that could change all their lives.

 

My take on it:

Camille has three fuckbuddies and two sisters. All of them are weird and all are in some kind of trouble along with the rest of the world, both magical and not. This books spends so much time on back story and side stories that there's no real... you guessed it: story!

 

Maybe because it's a fourth book and I joined the series here that I just don't care that she made a deal to spend a week with a shape shifting dragon stud and now he's going to collect. I don't care that the Seelie and Unseelie courts are being revived by Morgana. I don't care that Camille's boyfriend #1 is kidnapped. The "war" isn't very warlike. It's a couple skirmishes that lack any real emotional impact because they lack teeth and haven't been fleshed out enough. I don't care... about this universe at all. The author didn't make me care at all. In fact, the author didn't even make me curious about what would happen next.

 

The author really missed in writing this book. I don't have any desire to go read the first ones (and any series worth it's salt will give you enough backstory to know what's going on so you feel comfy enough to read on or go back) nor do I have any desire to read subsequent books.

 

I kept waiting for this book to wade through the dross and get to the story - sadly, I think that was it. I was bored, bored, bored.
