this weekend: a ramble on not much

This weekend has been a blur. Thank God for Easter because I've been running on Cadbury creme eggs and diet coke for three days now - oh and pea soup. Dane made it from scratch. That's why I married him - that and because he has a great ass.
Well, we all know that I spent Thursday night sobbing because the hosting company generated backups on my hard drive failed. They didn't have my databases in them, which means that the entire site as you all know it, was dead. The entire site is run on three databases (story archive, forums, gallery with bridges in between). Without the databases, there's nothing but a bunch of numbers and words that are associated with nothing and a pretty picture of a mask that's currently sitting in a drawer in my laundry room. Hence the sobbing. Dane was my hero that night, making me eat dinner and shuffling me off to bed when all I could do was sit at a computer screen and cry.
Friday morning, Chris put the backup he had from October '07 in and did all of the mods that I asked for in emails since then. Officially, the work week ended with me on the phone with my hosting company, pushing and prodding in a very FIRM VOICE to get some more answers for this debacle. I totally get the hacker - yes, they should have been better prepared for that, but the guy went in with inside knowledge and there's just nothing that you can do about that but hope the asshole fries his hard drives and has to leave his room to ask his mommy for some money for a new one and a new tube of zit cream. The mystery of the non-working backups is still a mystery. The guy on the phone just had no reason why they didn't work, but did tell me how to check them to accuracy next time (why this is something I should have to do, I'm not sure, but I will.) He did, however, find a backup on one of his slightly dead servers from November 12. He put that in, saving me at least 20 hours of work. Of course, Chris has to go do those mods again... erm.. sorry.
Friday night, I started relaoding 2005 stories back into the site. It sucked. Caught made the mistake of asking if she could help. Of course I gave her about 90 files to check, which she did dutifully after a laundry list of instructions. Of course, they were all done the next morning because she is amazing. I love that woman and my gratitude to her for just being in my life has no bounds. She also wants me to finish WP so wants this irritant gone *grins* - though I think it might have been the sobbing that did it. Caught, thank you.
Saturday morning dawned with the gorgeous and talented mamma ready to DO, so together, we DID on the site. I can't even express how grateful I am for her just pitching in yesterday. She got the forums sorted out and started up again, the main topics rolling and tackled the Story Orgy mess to get as many stories as possible out of nightmare, eyeball bleeding, headache causing chatroom logs, cleaned and posted on the forums and website.
I got the chatroom rules, a new troubleshooting guide done and linked, did some updating on the forums, contacted several people about getting their stuff back up, did a bunch of internal file organizing both on the site and in my defunct backup - some things I can identify by sight and others *shrugs* damned if I know. Hand coding HTML sucks. I hate it. In between headaches, the blonde and I got to have a 45 minute jump-on-Daddy playtime. That was certainly the best part of the day.
I also discovered that many files on the site are blank - all of them being post - October, I think. Many stories that should have *something in them, they say there's something in them... are blank. So now, each file has to be opened, each page, each story, each chapter, has to be touched, just to see if there's something there. Oh, the table of contents says it's there. It even says how big it is. But the page is blank. *sighs* Thank goodness for isa who is agreed to help sort out the ones that need to be deleted and reloaded. Her help is going to save me hours of tearing my hair out.
Got to bed at 2, after bunnying for a couple of minutes and woke up to RAIN! Yayaya. Yeah, whatever. It was more dithering with the site, some sleeping in and then dinner with the in-laws. Even some of the cool ones, lol. Jack and Coke helped a lot. I think it’s an early bed night. There’s, of course, more to do tomorrow. Yippee. *sighs*.
Thank God Easter is over. I’m out of diet coke and if I have one more crème egg, I’m going to keel over.
